INLAND SEAFOOD SUSTAINABILITY STATEMENT
Inland Seafood is committed to providing our customers a consistent supply of seafood that is transparent, traceable and sourced from well-managed fisheries, and is responsibly produced and harvested.
Knowing where our seafood comes from and how it was harvested is a priority at Inland. Traceability of all our products allows our customers to make informed decisions about what they are purchasing. To meet a wide range of definitions for sustainability we offer seafood options that include:
Local, Regional, and Beyond -- We start by sourcing locally when possible. Working with regional fishermen and farmers gives us an opportunity to support local communities and reduce our carbon footprint. We also purchase fish and shellfish from around the country. Inland agrees with NOAA’s assessment that “marine wild-capture fisheries in the United States are scientifically monitored, regionally managed, and enforced under ten national standards of sustainability through the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act—exceeding the international standards for ecolabeling of seafood.”
Third Party Certified Options – Sustainability has many different definitions. To make sure we meet them all, our inventory features seafood choices from around the world and we collaborate with credible ranking programs such as the Marine Stewardship Council, Alaska’s RFM program, Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) and other systems recognized by the Global Sustainable Seafood Initiative (GSSI). We maintain current chain-of-custody certification where applicable.
Sustainability goes beyond the seafood we source which is why we’re engaging with recognized Fishery Improvement Projects and Aquaculture Improvement Projects that drive our industry forward. We are currently working with the WWF Peruvian Mahi Mahi FIP and the NFI Crab Council. We also work with organizations like The University of Georgia Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant.
Inland is an active member of Sea Pact allowing us to leverage the power of pre-competitive collaboration to drive stewardship and continuous improvement of social, economic, and environmental responsibility throughout the global seafood supply chain. Inland is focused on innovative internal practices that minimize our impact on the environment. Our logistics team makes sure we’re running efficient routes, and we’re building a fleet of CNG trucks. Our reusable totes cut down on plastic waste and cardboard, and we’re continually building efficiencies into our operation.
Ongoing education and outreach are key and Inland is dedicated to understanding the issues, news and developments that impact the sustainable seafood community.
Policy matters. We maintain connections with local, state, and federal governments to stay involved with issues that impact our business and the communities that we work in.
Giving back to our Communities. Inland is a 100% Employee Owned company and we believe in supporting the communities in which we work, live, and play.
