Market Report

April 22, 2011

We are looking forward to a terrific Easter weekend. We are anticipating a busy couple of days for restaurants and grocery stores.

We received some day boat Alaskan Cod this morning and prices are better than we thought! It’s a great seafood item to show your skills in the kitchen.

We have good amounts of Tuna for this weekend and prices are steady.

Swordfish has arrived for this weekend and should be plentiful through next week; prices are stable compared to where they have been.

Flounder
continues to be a good menu choice with good availability and very reasonable prices.

Monkfish is also available for a terrific special this weekend.

Lake Pontchartrain Drum and Baja Redfish are in good supply this weekend and the prices are very good.

We have some beautiful Sturgeon in house. This steaky fish is perfect for a grilled entrée, smoked appetizer, oil poaching or as a great salad topper.

The price of Grouper from Mexico, and most fish from Central and South America, is extremely high and in short supply now. Things should get better in 10 days or so after the Easter holiday.  Remember, most boats are in port for Easter now and it will be 10 -14 days before the boats cycle back in from their first post Easter trip with enough catch to bring prices down.

In addition, Mahi remains extremely expensive with the Central and South American season coming to a close because of a lack of fish near shore.

We secured some Day Boat Yellow Tail Snapper from the Keys for this weekend. As supply is limited and most snapper is very expensive right now, please order early.

Amberjack fishing is still closed on the East Coast and in the Gulf.

Striped Bass is still astronomically priced and in very short supply.

We have a great supply of Hook & Line caught North Atlantic Black Bass. Its great texture and mild flavor make it versatile for almost all recipes.

Farmed Turbot
from Chile is also a phenomenal choice for this weekend’s menu.

Fresh Swai
is available at great prices, as well. 5 - 7 oz fully trimmed fillets. This is a product that everyone needs to try. Ask your Inland Seafood representative for details. Product is limited, so order early!

Atlantic Salmon has increased, yet again, for the week. As an alternative, ask about both Red and White Troll Kings arriving from Alaska. Prices are high but the quality is higher!

Crabmeat out of the Gulf has sold out for the weekend but we have plenty of Imported Crabmeat to cover orders.

We can expect the Lobster market to remain high until after Mother’s Day.

On the Non-seafood front…

We had a great run on our Eden Farms Certified Berkshire Hams.  Honey Glazed, spiral-sliced cured half hams are sold out but we have a limited supply of Applewood Smoked Black Forest Ham for the Easter buffets. Don’t forget to take advantage of the special pricing on the Berkshire Pork Bellies available through the weekend!

We also have USDA Choice Montana Ranch Piedmontese Ribeyes, which are perfect for any carving station at great prices for the Holiday.

As an equally great special we have All-Natural, hormone-free, Painted Hills tenderloins at deep discounts through Easter Sunday. *Remember, our cases on Painted Hills are smaller than average at 30-35 lb. weights, so take advantage of this, another great holiday buffet item.

We have a small supply left of Le Quebecois, all-natural 6 bone Veal racks at great prices. Ask your Inland Seafood representative for prices!

If you are considering poultry this weekend, don’t forget about our Georgia grown, All-Natural, Springer Mountain Chicken.

We just received a shipment of fresh Pekin Duck from Jurgielewicz Farms of Long island, USA, in time for this weekend. Whole Birds, Double Lobe Breasts and Leg Quarters are available.

Domestic Lamb is very limited as we approach Sunday, please contact your representative for pricing and availability.

Again, remember Mother’s Day is May 8th so there is not a lot of time between Easter and Mother’s day this year.

**When placing your orders, don’t forget about our great selection of cheeses, oils, olives and other terrific specialty items that we carry!
