First of all, we want to thank everybody who came to the 2011 Inland Seafood Experience this past Monday. For those who attended, they saw some great new product, ate some great food, and probably drank some nice wine and other spirits and they definitely saved a lot of money on the items that we were featuring. For those who did not, we look forward to seeing you next year. We also apologize for being tardy in getting the weekend specials out but due to the massive turn out at the show, we had a lot of tired people and run-down suppliers. It was all good and all fun!

We also have great prices this weekend on Columbia River King fillets at $8.99/lb for skin-on filets and first of the fall season Alaskan pin bone-out Cod at $7.69/lb for fresh Cod fillets averaging 14-20 ounces
With the Atlantic Salmon market, there seems to be collusion on the part of Chilean processors to raise the prices; and prices are indeed up a slight bit. Whole fish from the West Coast and the Northeastern parts of Canada are also slightly higher. We do have some good buys on Scottish Atlantic Salmon, both whole and fillets for this week and next. We will most probably be bringing in Norwegian Filets beginning next week again.
The Wild Salmon season is all but toast in Alaska. We have our last shipment of Sockeyes and some Cohos coming in from Southeast Alaska along with Kings and Cohos from the Columbia River area. In addition, we have a good shot of Columbia River King Salmon coming in this week and next week as the main stem of the river is scheduled for openings this weekend and next week. This will be the time to really jump in on Columbia River Kings.
The Halibut season is drawing to a close with prices remaining at astronomical levels. We think it will remain that way for the rest of the season. But we are looking at Farmed Raised Halibut to bring in; starting in November.
There are good deals coming up this fall on Farm-Raised Cobia and also a good supply of wild Corvina showing up in Central America.
The entire Mahi Mahi market should be trending down as weeks go on into the fall. Initial reports indicate a strong season.
Snapper and Grouper are both very tight and will be expensive because Mexico is fishing in earnest for Octopus and also because of storms in Central and South America as well as in the United States. Imported Snapper is expensive as well as Gulf Red Snapper right now.
We feel that Swordfish will start falling by the middle of next week.
Tuna has been tight and will probably remain so for the foreseeable future with prices going up. Additionally, Itsumo was a great hit at our show; everyone loved the taste, flavor and color of this great product.
North-Atlantic Fish should start trending down after this weekend as boats come back from fishing. It should be readily available so Haddock and Cod should be more reasonable by mid- week.
We are looking forward to the beginning of October for more availability on Fluke and Wild Striped Bass.
Shellfish is also a problem because of a lot of fresh water runoff from tropical storms in the Gulf. Oysters are expensive and scarce and not very good quality. In addition, the run-off from the floods in Pennsylvania/New Jersey area has made a lot of the areas in the Chesapeake suspect for Shellfish. We do have areas that are open and we are getting good product out of it, but we will monitor this closely. Northern product, Massachusetts through Eastern Canada, seems to be a good source but, of course, those Oysters are more expensive.
Crab Meat is still tight but the moratorium on Venezuelan product should be over by October 1st and they should be back into production on October 5th. Meanwhile, we are trying to get as much domestically produced Crab Meat and if the weather cooperates we should have a good fall season.
We are having a good fall season on Fresh Shrimp and we expect to get deliveries daily. The Shrimp are medium-sized and very few 16/20 Shrimp or larger are available at this point in the season.
Lobster seems to be steady right now and we are getting a lot of Jumbo Lobster Lump, as well as featuring our Raw Claws and Freshly Cooked Claws. Ask your salesperson for today’s availability.
