Market Report

June 7, 2011

The market has been fairly steady since our last report with a few notable items.

There has been some wonderful quality of Black Bass since the season has opened. We are getting great quantities and the fish are gorgeous. There has been supply coming from Florida up to the North Atlantic. Prices are starting to come down and should prove to be a terrific menu choice. Sizes are ranging from larges; 1-2 lbs; jumbos at 2-3 lbs and even some 4-5 lb fish should be coming in.

We have heard some rumors that we should start seeing some pound nets being laid in the Atlantic region and that we could expect to see some Pound Net Flounders. If you haven’t seen these, they are the highest quality flounder around. Stay tuned and we will keep you posted.

Wild Salmon will have a good season although this week seems to have a slow start. There are going to be some more openings on the Copper River. We are limited on Sockeyes right now. We do expect some other fishing regions to open soon and take some of the pressure off. We do have some Copper River Kings in house; get them while they last.

We are going to see our first shipment of Copper River Ketas in soon. *Your sales representatives will keep you informed.

Following our head buyer’s return from Viking Village, we will start to see some other products from that area. The Ultra Dry Fresh Scallops that we have been bringing in will continue with another shipment this week. These scallops are All-Natural, pristine, Day Boat Scallops andare absolutely gorgeous! If you have not tried these, you owe it to yourself to check them out. Your customers will thank you!

Aside from scallops, there are some beautiful Day Boat Fluke and Skate that we are bring in. These fish are fresh and make beautiful dishes with any recipe.

With some challenges in certain areas of the market, a delicious menu option with continuity of supply and good pricing is Farmed Redfish from our New Orleans buying station.  Ask your Inland Seafood representative for information.
