Market Report

July 1, 2011

There are plenty of grilling fish for this weekend, and the next, at good prices. Swordfish is down significantly from where it has been; in fact it will be moderate for the next couple of weeks.

Tuna is readily available in the market place and it is excellent quality.

In addition, we have a lot of Salmon of all types, which are excellent for the grill, including the Columbia River King Salmon and the last of the Copper River Kings as well as Sockeye and Keta which we are running on special:

As a salute to the American Fisherman, all Wild American Salmon, the Greatest American Fish,
are on special all weekend long and will be available next week as the rush for the 4th of July subsides.
*Note these are priced for 20 pound catch weight cases.

*Wild Alaskan Silver Bright Keta Salmon
Skin-on, “D” trim, pin bone out - $5.79/lb

*Wild Alaskan Sockeye Salmon (Bright Red Meat!)
Skin-on, “D” trim, pin bone out - $8.99/lb

*Wild King Salmon; Columbia River & Alaskan
Skin-on, “D” trim, pin bone out - $10.99/lb

Scottish Salmon is also very reasonably priced. Please check out our new prices on Atlantic Salmon, including Norwegian and Chilean, which are down. It seems like we are beginning to see the effects of Chile coming back into the farmed Atlantic Salmon market place.

Grouper is going to be tight because of the storms off of Central America and Mexico. Most probably, imported Dotted Snapper will be as well.

The Northeastern product, ground fish; Cod, Monkfish, Haddock and Skate seem to be more reasonable than they have been. In addition, we are starting to see a little bit of Mahi Mahi out of Mexico from artisanal boats. Hopefully this means that the upcoming season will be good.

We have a new shipment of Alaskan Cod coming in and hopefully, by Monday, a little bit of Fluke Flounder from the Northeast and the Gulf of Mexico.

We’re starting to see a little bit of Pompano come in from Louisiana as well as another shipment of inexpensive day boat Drum from Lake Pontchartrain. Things seem to be settling down in Louisiana and the floodwaters are receding. Crawfish are still around but they are getting much scarcer.

Lobster, of course, is still very expensive and will probably remain that way through the next couple of weeks as we hear signs that the shed is starting in Maine which will be the beginning of Lobster season for new shell Lobsters at a much lower price.

Have a Safe and Happy 4th of July weekend, from all of us at Inland Seafood!
